A mobile app promo video shows your app on a phone screen in a short vertical video. distrorig records your product in a phone layout, so it fills a 9:16 frame, and adds a creator, a voiceover and captions. It works for web apps and mobile web layouts; for a native app you upload your own screen recording.
Why record in a phone layout?
A desktop recording squeezed into a vertical video leaves the product small, with empty space above and below. distrorig's AI agent can use a phone-sized browser instead. It acts as a mobile browser and uses touch, so your product shows its real mobile design.
- The phone recording is 810 by 1440 pixels (2x pixel density), so text stays sharp.
- It fills a 1080 by 1920 vertical export with no bars.
- Each tap shows a fingertip, and each swipe shows a finger sliding, in place of a mouse cursor.
- A phone recording in a vertical video holds still. It does not zoom on every tap, which looks calmer on a phone.
What do Apple and Google require for store videos?
Store videos have their own rules, separate from social feeds. These come from Apple's and Google's own help pages. Checked October 2026.
| App Store app preview | Google Play preview video | |
|---|---|---|
| How you add it | Upload the file in App Store Connect | Paste a YouTube URL in Play Console |
| Length | 15 to 30 seconds | No maximum; only the first 30 seconds autoplay, muted |
| Orientation | Portrait or horizontal for iOS apps | Portrait or horizontal; no black bars beside a portrait video |
| Size (iPhone) | 886 by 1920 on most current iPhones; 1080 by 1920 for 5.5 inch iPhones | Set by YouTube |
| Frame rate | At most 30 fps | Set by YouTube |
| File | H.264 or ProRes 422 HQ, .mov, .m4v or .mp4, up to 500 MB | A public or unlisted YouTube video, embeddable, not age restricted, ads turned off |
| How many | Up to 3 per device size and language | 1 URL in the preview video field; Google suggests a localized video for each market |
| What it may show | Only screen captures of the app itself, with narration and overlays allowed | Google recommends showing the app in the first 10 seconds and not showing people using the device |

What distrorig gives you for each place
| Where | Fits as made? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Reels | Yes | Export 9:16, or post to TikTok and YouTube from distrorig |
| Your website or landing page | Yes | Export 9:16 or 16:9 and embed the MP4 |
| Google Play preview | Mostly | Post to YouTube, turn off ads in YouTube, paste the link. Google advises against showing people using the device, so keep creator shots short |
| App Store preview | Rarely | Apple allows only screen captures of the app, so drop creator shots. Resize the 1080 by 1920 export to 886 by 1920 yourself |
How to make one
- Start a project in 9:16. New vertical projects start with the phone browser.
- Describe the app and the audience in the chat. Say the one thing a new user does first.
- Give the URL of your web app, and a demo login. For a native app, upload a screen recording from your phone instead.
- Agree on the plan. The assistant proposes a hook, the steps to record and the script.
- Approve the creator's still if the video has one. No clip is paid for before you approve the look.
- Let it run, then edit any single shot, line or caption style. Only that part is made again.
- Export or post. Download the MP4, or post to TikTok or YouTube now or at a set time.
When it is not the right tool
- If your app is native only and you have no screen recordings, the agent cannot open it. Record the app on your phone first, or use a tool that captures devices.
- If you only need an App Store preview, a plain screen recording from the device, trimmed to 30 seconds, is often enough. Apple allows nothing else on screen.
- If you need the video in several languages, distrorig does not translate videos. You make each language as its own video.
What it costs
A Pro plan is $49.99 a month or $479.88 a year, with a monthly generation allowance. Recording, editing and posting do not use it. See pricing.
