SaaS ads that work, by format

Updated October 16, 2026

SaaS ads work best when they show the product doing one job in 15 to 30 seconds. The 7 formats below cover most software video ads: UGC hook with demo, founder to camera, problem and fix, one feature, before and after, customer story and screen with captions. Start with 2 or 3 of them and test hooks.

Why are software ads harder than other ads?

A shoe ad shows the shoe. Software is invisible until someone uses it, and an interface is small on a phone. So a software ad has two jobs: get attention with a person or a problem, then make the product readable. Most failed SaaS ads do only one of the two: a person talking with no product, or a screen recording with no reason to watch.

Where do SaaS video ads run?

Meta (Facebook, Instagram)Broad audiences, small business owners, consumersUGC hook and demo, problem and fix
TikTokYounger audiences, creators, prosumersUGC hook and demo, founder to camera

Each platform's sizes and limits are on video ad specs. For Meta in particular, see Facebook ads for SaaS.

What makes a SaaS ad readable on a phone?

  • Zoom into the part of the interface that changes. A full desktop screen is unreadable at phone size.
  • Record a mobile layout for vertical ads, if your product has one.
  • Caption every word. Many people watch with the sound off.
  • Use realistic data in the product. Empty states look like an unfinished product.
  • Hold the result on screen for at least 1 second.

Doing this with distrorig

distrorig makes marketing videos for software: an AI agent uses your product and records it, an AI creator introduces it on camera, and an AI voice narrates. It makes UGC hook and demo, one feature, and screen with captions without filming. For problem and fix, the old way can be a generated shot, such as a person at a messy desk. For founder to camera, upload a photo and use an avatar made from it, or film yourself and upload the clip. Customer stories need a real customer; do not generate one. distrorig does not run or buy ads; you export the video and upload it to your ad account. See AI video ads.

Questions

What is the best ad format for SaaS?
A short video that shows the product doing one job is the most reliable starting point. Add a person at the start (UGC style or the founder) to get people to watch the first seconds.
Where should a SaaS company run ads?
Search ads catch people already looking for a tool like yours. Meta, TikTok and YouTube reach people who are not looking yet, so they need video that explains the problem. LinkedIn reaches B2B buyers by job title.
How many ad versions should I make?
Start with 3 to 5 versions that differ in the hook, with the same product footage. Change one part at a time, so you know what made the difference.
Should SaaS ads show pricing?
Show a free plan or trial if you have one, because it lowers the step. Exact prices can wait for the landing page, where you can explain plans.
Do customer testimonial ads work for SaaS?
They can, but only with real customers who agreed to it. Never present an actor or an AI creator as a customer.
